Sustainability Indicators in Land Use Planning
The mission of the Sustainability Indicators in Land Use Planning Work Group is to examine how sustainable development and "smart growth" concepts interact. The Work Group focuses its activities on learning about existing tools to measure the comprehensive effects of land use decisions, and the development of tools (indicators) for helping communities to address urban sprawl. This group is currently working to coordinate a collaborative meeting to define a framework for indicators that can be used to track how land use is changing and the effects on the community, and determine effective ways to measure decisions moving toward "smart growth" principles vs. urban and suburban sprawl.
